Pokemon GO's August 2024 Community Day will feature the water-type starter Pokemon Popplio as the star attraction, taking place on August 31 from 2pm to 5pm local time. During the event or up to five hours afterward, players who evolve Popplio will receive a Brionne with the powerful Hydro Cannon move, providing a valuable addition to their water-type teams.

The next Pokemon GO Community Day will feature the water-type starter Pokemon Popplio, Niantic has announced. The upcoming event is scheduled to take place at the tail end of August 2024.
A portion of the game's fandom had long theorized that Popplio would be the star of next month's Community Day. These suspicions were partially rooted in the fact that Pokemon GO's August 2023 Community Day featured the Gen 6 starter Froakie, leaving Popplio as the oldest Water-type starter that was yet to receive a Community Day event of its own. Players are eager to see how Niantic will highlight the bubbly sea lion Pokemon and what exclusive move it may learn through evolution during the three-hour celebration.

That prediction proved to be correct, with Niantic just announcing that the Gen 7 Water-type starter Popplio will indeed be at the center of the next Pokemon GO Community Day. The event itself will take place on August 31, from 2pm to 5pm local time. As per usual, the star of the show will appear more frequently in the wild during this three-hour window, which will also offer significantly increased chances of catching a shiny Popplio variant. Evolving any Popplio for the duration of the event or up to five hours afterward will net players a Brionne that knows Hydro Cannon, one of the most useful Water-type moves in the game that boasts high DPS and EPS alike.
Evolving Brionne during the same time frame will result in a Primarina that knows Sparkling Aria. While not as prevalent in Pokemon GO competitive play, this charged attack still has the potential to be a devastating weapon in the Great and Ultra Leagues, especially in the context of Primarina's distinct Water/Fairy dual-typing that offers good coverage. Based on the wording of Niantic's latest announcement, it would appear that Sparkling Aria will not be an event-exclusive attack, but will instead remain available beyond August 31.

*Double Candy for catching Pokémon.
*Triple XP for catching Pokémon.
*Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and above to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.
*Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
*Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
*Take snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
*An additional Special Trade can be made, for a maximum of three for the day.*
*Trades will require 50% less Stardust (available from 2 PM to 10 PM local time).

The Community Day itself will also introduce a new $1 Special Research Story, as well as a number of typical temporary bonuses, like double Candy and triple XP rewards for catching mons. Limited-time photobombing events will also be part of the promotion, together with a 50% Stardust discount on trades. After the Community Day wraps up, trainers will have an opportunity to tackle special four-star Raids featuring Brionne. Triumphing in any single one of these encounters will cause Popplio to spawn more frequently around the Gym where the Raid itself took place for 30 minutes after the battle.
Looking ahead, if Niantic were to continue this pattern of featuring Water-type starters during summer Community Days, then the August 2025 Community Day could end up starring Sobble. But that is far from guaranteed, not least because the Gen 8 starter is part of the group of Galar mons that are still missing from Pokemon GO as of July 2024. Trainers will have to stay tuned to see if Niantic has any surprises in store for future summer events.
